Castlecove Suite

The Castlecove Suite is an original suite of music based on memories of people and places encountered while on holiday in the small village of Castlecove, Co. Kerry.  Castlecove is the origin of my father’s side of the family. The suite, split into 5 pieces, includes an arrangement of the Traditional Irish Folk piece, She Moved Through the Fair, which serves as a tribute to my late grandmother Kathleen Brennan.

Staigue

Staigue Fort is an atmospheric medieval stone fort built approximately 2,500 years ago. The fort itself is both magnificent and extremely well preserved, surrounded by mountains and with views out to sea.

Journey To Sneem (3 Movements)

The Journey to Sneem is split into 3 movements, reflecting the events of a walking trip that my brother, my father and I undertook when I was 10 years old. The walk takes roughly 6 hours following the Kerry Way walking trail over the mountains that separate Castlecove and Sneem. The Battle Of The Brendans

This piece is based on two inhabitants of Castlecove who are in consistent rivalry with each other. The piece imagines a verbal altercation between the two, with no resolution.

She Moved Through The Fair (Arrangement)

She Moved Through the Fair is a traditional Irish folk tune that I decided to arrange as it reminds me of my childhood holidays visiting Ireland.

Lower Liss

Lower Liss is the name of the hamlet where our Cottage is, built on a rock by previous generations of Brennans. Its’ beautiful simplicity, surrounded by mountains and the sea, is the focus of the piece, ending with a short tribute to the history of the house, which was used for set dancing every Saturday evening with live musicians when Kathleen was in her teens.
